Have you ever thought about your design, your destiny, and your dreams?
Every human being is originated by design, the Father’s design; they all have been purposed to do good things that would bring glory to God. The Psalmist wrote, For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. - Psa 139:13-16 NIV
God ordained and wrote down His plans for our lives before we were born, yet so many of us never fulfill the mission of life in which we were called. When most people think about what they were born to do they wonder why they are not accomplishing those things. People have things that burn within their hearts, and if they were to think about their unfulfilled desires long enough, they may give up on their dreams and live a life of regret. I believe those who give up on their dreams outnumber those who achieve them.
I want to give you an idea about how to accomplish the things you dream of, but first, we must look at a person’s heart from a biblical point of view. Before we can fulfill our dreams to reach our destiny, we must know if the desire is from God, if one is a Christian.
There are many words used in the Bible for the word heart, but for this message, we will look at the heart as the primary place of motivation, the seat of the feelings and emotions. When a person is first born into this world, they are born into an immediate separation from God because of the sin nature of all human beings. Even though a newly born baby has not committed any sin, they can feel the effects of a dark and depraved world that they have entered into at birth.
Jesus Christ said, “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander” ~ Matthew 15:19. And: “What comes out of a man is what makes him ‘unclean.’ For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and make a man ‘unclean’” ~ Mark 7:20-23.
The Prophet Jeremiah said, “The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” -Jer 17:9 The heart that is not made new by becoming reborn by faith in Jesus Christ, is sinful and often vile. For this reason we see so many wars, murders, traumas, hurts and wounds in people; they are born into a fallen world. A fallen world is one that has lost its connection with the Creator, a world that no longer lives a life of self-denial but rather lives a life of self-fulfillment according to their desires.
God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. God can work with a humble heart, but one that is self-exalted is on its own because that person is pushing against God. The Psalmist said, LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear,
- Psa 10:17
The first thing we need to do to fulfill the desires of our heart is to allow God to plant those desires in us. If God inspires us to do something, He will give us the gifts to do such a thing, as well as the grace or favor to do it. If God has called you to be a singer, actor, writer, missionary, preacher, teacher, politician, doctor, or anything else then He has put inside of you an ability to do it and a passion and desire for it. God is not against these things, in fact, He wants His people to be able to go out into the marketplace and release hope, the Light of glory that is Jesus Christ.
Numerous scriptures point to God’s children being in this world but not being of it. Christians must live here on earth and while doing so they are to bring the light of Christ to a dark and dying world. However, we are not to be yoked with unbelievers because righteousness and wickedness, light and darkness have nothing in common (2 Cor 6:14). We can’t decide we want to be someone of significance for our glory because all glory is for God. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to be My disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow Me.” – Matt 16:24 and He asked, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” – Matt 16:26
The word of God is a breathing and life-giving book of direction if one would seek God's will and wisdom within the pages. We determine if our desire to do something is of God by committing our lives and ways to Him.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. Ps 37:4-6 ESV
If you are a Christian, born again of the Spirit of God and have made Jesus Christ your Lord and Savior then “You are God’s chosen treasure – priests who are kings, a spiritual “nation” set apart as God’s devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world. 1 Peter 2:9 TPT
Sometimes it is hard to surrender our lives fully to God but Jesus said He did and said what the Father told Him. May we be imitators of Jesus and take a second look at the desires of our hearts and allow the Spirit of God to overtake them!
Let’s Pray, Heavenly Father, thank You for the opportunity to live an abundant life in Jesus Christ! I submit my plans, desires, and destiny to You, the Creator of all things and the Giver of all good gifts. I confess that I have been on a path of self and as such, I lack in the fulfillment of peace. Although I have accomplished many things in this life, I am still not satisfied. I realize that unless I do my works according to Your will, they are merely works, and destined to be burned up one day. I choose to turn things around today and commit my dreams to You. Use me Lord for Your kingdom purposes, in Jesus name, Amen.
