I just read the latest statistics on Christians (or those who claim to be) not voting. Over six million people profess to be Christians, but only 41% are registered to vote. A nonvote is a vote for the opposing party.
Why?
Is it because God’s in control?
I don’t mix politics with religion.
I’m only one person; how can my vote make a difference?
I don’t know the facts well enough to vote.
I don’t know where/how to vote.
I don’t have time.
Politics don’t affect my life.
Reasons why you should vote?
If every Christian voted, we could change the laws in place to be more appropriately aligned with God’s word.
It is an American privilege to vote.
It is our moral responsibility to vote.
According to a recent poll by Pew Research, voter turnout at this stage is again divided by ethnicity. Pew Research reports that the following would vote for former President Donald Trump.
82% of White evangelical Protestants
61% of White Catholics
58% of White non-evangelical Protestants
While Harris currently has the backing of roughly two-thirds or more registered voters in various other religious groups:
86% of Black Protestants
85% of atheists
78% of agnostics
65% of Hispanic Catholics
65% of Jewish voters
It is concerning when certain sects of Christians align with atheists and agnostics regarding their voting preferences. What does this say about Christians?
This poll was conducted between August 26 – September 2, 2024, showing that just last month, all voters were leaning at 49% Trump/Harris—an equal split. [1]
The problem is the Church is not biblical. Those who say they are Christians are pew warmers who live carnal lives and, for the most part, have no idea of how to influence their sphere of influence for the kingdom of God.
Dr. George Barna, a veteran researcher and author of the AWVI 2024, asserts that the nation’s cultural decline is deeply rooted in the spiritual collapse of Christianity. And much of that decline, he says, is being driven by the shifts among American evangelicals identified in his research.
In reality, the research shows that evangelicals are far fewer in number than typically reported. They also often are far less biblical in their thinking than one might think, and they tend to vote in far fewer numbers than expected. Although more conservative on moral issues, as a whole, evangelicals reflect fewer lifestyle differences from the culture than often thought.
Surprisingly, the research found that most evangelicals do not possess a biblical worldview—only about one-third do. In fact, the findings strongly suggest that evangelicals are more likely to be shaped by the feelings-driven culture around them than they are to influence or “evangelize” it. 2
Sadly, Christians are no longer Bible-believing followers of Jesus Christ. Most have a humanistic worldview instead of a biblical one.
The Bible tells us that the carnal mind is dead and an enemy of God. The carnal mind cannot understand the things of the Spirit because they are spiritually discerned (1 Cor 2:14). For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. – Romans 8:6-8 NKJV
The Apostle Paul, the writer of Romans, told us that the mind that thinks on the earthly realm and things thereof is not able to choose life. Therefore, they cannot please God.
If believers of Jesus Christ are supposed to be the light of the world, then how do we shine if we do not live righteous lives? We are to walk in the light, not in the darkness, which is what is often on the ballots at election time.
Barna says, “The inconsistency in belief and practice among evangelicals is concerning to Barna, who notes that many evangelicals struggle to apply core biblical principles in daily life, falling prey to cultural slogans and behaviors.”
Well said.
The Trump/Harris campaign has life at stake. The unborn and the generation of children today are at risk of death and destruction if the Harris/Waltz team wins. I don’t know about you, but I want to shine with the light of Jesus and make sure I live a righteous life, standing up for what is right and against what is wrong. Voting is one of the ways we can do this.
No matter what you have told yourself about not voting – you are wrong. Vote, America needs you, our children need you. If you agree that voting is important but don’t know where to start, contact Centers for Arizona Policy if you live in Arizona. Other states have similar groups that will help you understand the propositions on the ballot in your area.
Let’s pray,
Heavenly Father, we need a day of repentance to be birthed in the Church. Jesus, as You are the head of the body, we need Your Spirit to move mightily with conviction upon those who say they believe in You. Help us to know without a doubt that we are embracing as truth is Your truth. Forgive us for accepting the lies of this world and accepting their ways of life. Help us to turn from our wicked ways so that You can heal our land. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
